Ingredients
  • 200 g 7 oz ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 3 slices firm white or whole-wheat sandwich bread
  • 1 hard-boiled large egg peeled and finely grated
  • 30 g 2 tbsp salted butter, divided (softened)
  • 1 small red onion finely chopped (approx. 70 g)
  • 1 tsp ginger paste freshly grated
  • 1 tsp garlic paste finely crushed
  • 1 –2 small Indian green chilies Hari Mirch, finely minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 3/4 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder or 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp fresh lime juice optional
Instructions
  1. Sauté Aromatics: Melt 15g butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and green chilies; sauté for 3–4 minutes until translucent. Stir in ginger and garlic paste; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Brown Beef: Add ground beef. Cook over medium-high heat for 6–7 minutes, breaking it into small granules, until all released liquid completely cooks off and meat begins to sizzle.
  3. Bhuna (Spicing): Reduce heat to medium. Add turmeric, Kashmiri red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Fry for 2–3 minutes until the spices darken slightly and clear, red-tinted oil beads around the meat. Stir in lime juice, then remove from heat to cool slightly.
  4. Assemble: Spread remaining butter on both sides of bread slices. Layer spiced beef and grated egg between the slices.
  5. Toast: Grill in a preheated skillet or sandwich press over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes per side until deep golden and crisp. Rest on a wire rack for 1 minute before slicing.
