Sweet Appalu | Bellam Appalu is one of the sweet delicacies which is soft from the inside and has mid crunchy flavor from the outside. This recipe is made as naivedyam during festivals or offered as prasadam to Lord Hanuman.

Ingredients
  • Rice flour – ½ cup
  • Wheat flour – ½ cup
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tbsp.
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Jaggery – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp.
Instructions
  1. In a pan add jaggery and little water. Melt and filter foreign particles.
  2. While jaggery melts let's prepare flour mix, In a mixing bowl add equal portions of wheat and rice flour.
  3. Add cardamom powder, mix. Put this flour in the above jaggery syrup and stir continuously.
  4. Cook on low flame and make a thick lump of dough. Add ghee to get a soft texture.
  5. Off the flame and let this batter cool. Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan to deep fry the sweet appalu recipe.
  6. When the oil is ready, stake a small portion of dough by greasing your hands.
  7. Make disk shape by pressing dough and gently release them in oil.
  8. Similarly, make a few more and deep fry on low flame by frying on both sides.
  9. As Bellam appalu absorbs more oil, press them gently using two colanders and drain excess oil.
