Poha recipe is a simple Indian breakfast recipe which can be prepared at no time. Children like to have it because of its yellowish color. In this post, I have explained step by step Aloo Poha Recipe along with tips and notes.

This recipe can be made in different variations some like to use low ingredients and some like to add all ingredients. People who are suffering from a cough like to avoid coconut grate (as this may increase a cough). Even if coconut grate is removed, we can hardly find the difference. Tips to make delicious Vegetable poha Recipe:

  1. Rinse the poha: Rinse the poha flakes in water to remove any dirt or debris. Use a fine-mesh strainer to avoid breaking the flakes. Soak the poha in water for a few minutes until they become soft but not mushy. Drain the water and keep the poha aside.
  2. Use the right ingredients: Use fresh ingredients like curry leaves, green chilies, and coriander leaves to add flavor to the poha. You can also add onions, potatoes, peanuts, or any other veggies of your choice to make the dish more wholesome.
  3. Add the seasoning: In a pan, heat some oil, and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and chopped green chilies. When the seeds start to splutter, add chopped onions, and sauté until they turn translucent. Add some turmeric powder and salt as per your taste.
  4. Cook the poha: Add the soaked poha to the pan and mix well with the seasoning. Cook the poha on low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add some lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.
  5. Serve hot: Poha is best served hot. You can serve it with some fresh coconut, roasted peanuts, and a cup of hot tea for a perfect breakfast or snack.
  6. Adjust the consistency: If the poha is too dry, you can sprinkle some water and cover the pan for a few minutes. If it is too moist, cook on high flame for a few minutes, stirring continuously.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Poha Recipe:

  • Beaten rice/ poha – 1 cup
  • Onions chopped – 2
  • Grated coconut grated – ¼ cup
  • Groundnuts crushed – ¼ cup
  • Curry leaves – 1 stalk
  • Green chillies – 6
  • Sugar – ¼ tsp.
  • Coriander leaves – ¼ cup
  • Lime juice – 1 tsp.
  • Potato chopped – 1 small
  • Mustard – ½ tsp.
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp.
  • Oil – 1 ½ tsp.
  • Salt – As per your taste.

Instructions

How to Make Poha Recipe:

  1. Clean beaten rice/poha and wash in water.
  2. Drain all the water and sprinkle little water and keep aside.
  3. After 10 minutes, gently loosen the rice wafers.

Note: There are two varieties of beaten rice, one is thin rice wafers type and other is thick. Thick is preferred.

    Tip: If beaten rice is thick (native) you should lose it after 15 minutes.

    1. In a heavy saucepan put some oil and add cumin, mustard seeds and potatoes.
    2. Stir for a while. Approximately 2 minutes.
    3. Add onions, curry leaves and green chillies. Stir further still the onions are tender.
    4. Add beaten rice/ poha and remaining ingredients.

    Tip: Save some coriander leaves and grated coconut for garnishing.

    1. Add salt – as per your taste.
    2. To enrich the taste add lemon juice.
    3. Lower the heat and stir slowly so that it doesn’t stick to the base.
    4. Poha Recipe is ready. Garnish with coriander leaves and grated coconut.
    5. Serve hot.
