Ingredients

  • Dondakaya/ Tindora – 1 large bowl 250 gms.
  • Oil – 3 tbsp.
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tbsp.
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp.
  • Chana dal – ½ tbsp.
  • Moong dal – ½ tbsp.
  • Garlic cloves – 12 No.
  • Onions- ½ bowl
  • Curry leaves – 2 tbsp.
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp.
  • Salt – 1 tbsp.
  • Tomatoes – 1 cup
  • Red chilli powder – ½ tbsp.
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp.
  • Water – 1 glass
  • Coriander powder – ½ tbsp.

Instructions

  1. In pan heat oil and add chana dal, mustard seeds, moong dal, cumin seeds and garlic.
  2. Add sliced onions and curry leaves. Saute for a while till onions turn soft.
  3. Put tindora (cut them into thin pieces so that they can be cooked fast).
  4. Sprinkle little salt and turmeric powder, mix and cook with lid covered for a while till they turn soft.
  5. Add tomatoes and cook further till tomatoes turn soft.
  6. Sprinkle red chilli powder, water and cook for a while till dondakaya cooks completely.
  7. Add coriander powder at the end and mix so that curry thickens.
  8. Garnish dondakaya curry with coriander leaves and serve hot.

How to make Dondakaya Curry:

1.  Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and chana dal.

2.  Add moong dal, garlic cloves, onions and curry leaves.

3.  Put finely sliced tindora, sprinkle turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.

4.  Close the lid and cook on medium flame till the tindora turns soft.

5  Add sliced tomatoes, mix and cook further with lid covered for 2 minutes.

6.  Sprinkle red chilli powder and add glass full water. Mix and cook for a minute or two with the lid covered.
