Okra Tomato Curry | Bendakaya Tomato Curry

Okra Tomato Curry | Bendakaya Tomato Curry is one of the simple and easy recipes from Andhra Cuisine which can be made easily by bachelors.

Usually, this recipe can be made by adding spices or can be done simply without adding them. In our version instead of adding garam masala powder, I have used sambar powder.

Okra Tomato Curry

I prepared this recipe many times by adjusting spices here and there but by adding sambar powder this recipe was very delicious so I wanted to share my experience with you.

South Indian has a culture of adding tomatoes or tamarind in most of the curries to give tangling flavor. They think tanginess will help in digestion and keep the stomach fell light.

This version of Bendi Tomato curry goes well with steamed rice as well as roti or pulka. I hope you will try this version and let me know your experience as a comment below.

TIPS to make perfect Okra Tomato Curry:

  • Sticky gum while cutting is common and is a good sign of being fresh.
  • Clean Okra in water and dry on a clean cloth to reduce stickiness while cooking.
  • While selecting from a vegetable vendor, break the tip if it breaks then they are fresh and tender, or else they give fiber feeling while chewing them.
  • As a flavoring ingredient, instead of garam masala powder, I have substituted with sambar powder.
  • Do not cook for a long time, tender okra will tend to become mushy and spoil our recipe.
  • Once you sprinkle spice powders, cook not more than a minute, mix well and remove from the flame.
