Tips to make Chicken Biryani Recipe in an electric rice cooker:

  • Usually, we add 2 bowls of water for every bowl of rice. As we are soaking rice we need to lower water to get grainy rice.
  • The fresh ground spice gives good flavour so avoid adding packed masala spices.
  • Add marinated chicken before rice cooks and there is liquid starch in it so that rice absorbs spices.
  • If you want we can add 1 tbsp. ghee once the rice is cooked to have a nice aroma and flavour.

Ingredients

  • Chicken – 1 kg
  • Basmati Rice – 1 bowl
  • Water – 2 bowls
  • Cinnamon sticks – 15 No.
  • Cloves – 15 No.
  • Star anise – 2 No.
  • Green cardamoms – 8 No.
  • Bay leaves – 5 No.
  • Onions – 2 cups
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp.
  • Salt – 3 tbsp.
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp.
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 tbsp.
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp.
  • Lemon extract – 3 tbsp.
  • Mint leaves – ½ cup
  • Coriander leaves – ½ cup
  • Oil – 4 tbsp.
  • Green chillies – 4 No.

Instructions

  1. In an electric rice cooker bowl add basmati rice and clean gently.
  2. Add two bowls of water and soak for 15-30 minutes with lid covered.
  3. Let’s prepare spice powder for marination. In a mixer grinder add cinnamon sticks, green cardamoms, star anise, bay leaf, cloves and onions. Make a soft paste.
  4. In a wide mixing bowl add cleaned chicken pieces, turmeric powder, salt, ginger garlic paste, above spice paste, red chilli powder, coriander powder, coriander leaves, mint leaves and lemon juice.
  5. Mix all ingredients and keep them aside to marinate along with rice.
  6. After 30 minutes put the vessel in an electric cooker and power on.
  7. Add little oil in a pan and add cinnamon sticks, green cardamoms, bay leaves, cloves, green chillies and onions.
  8. Saute for a second and add marinated chicken and mix well.
  9. Cook for 5-10 minutes till the rice starts boiling.
  10. Once the chicken is semi-cooked, add this to rice and mix.
  11. Check water for salt and add 2 tbsp. (as per your taste) and close the lid to cook further till electric cooker butter raises.

How to make Chicken Biryani Recipe in an electric rice cooker:

1.  Clean basmati rice and add two bowls of water for each bowl of rice. Place the cooker lid and keep it aside.

2.  Meanwhile let’s prepare spice powder. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and green cardamoms.

6.  Put coriander leaves, spice mix paste and mix well. Place a lid and marinate for a while.

7.  Place soaked rice cooker and on the button to cook rice.

8.  Heat oil in a pan add cinnamon sticks, cloves and green cardamoms.

10.  Put marinated chicken, mix and cook for 10 minutes with lid covered.

11.  Open the lid of an electric rice cooker and put it above cooked chicken and mix them.

12.  Add 2 tbsp. salt and mix well and close the lid and let the cooker off by itself.
