Coconut Burfi

Coconut Burfi is one of the famous homemade Indian sweet. Nariyal Ki Barfi is not only easy but also very nutritious recipes. It has many health benefits. It is good for diabetes patients when prepared with sugar-free sweetener.

This recipe can be made in 15-20 minutes all the extra time spend is for grating coconut. Instead of taking tender coconut use hard and fresh coconut for making this recipe. As fresh coconut has moisture in it we need to cook on low flame till the mixture gets thick.

We can use condensed milk or even whole milk to make this recipe if you are using dry coconut. All the difference is that it takes some time when using whole milk to get thick consistency whereas condensed milk takes less time. In this scenario, we don’t saute in ghee but cook on low flame to get a soft coconut.

Here are some tips to help you make the perfect coconut burfi:

  1. Use freshly grated coconut: Freshly grated coconut is essential to making the perfect coconut burfi. It has a sweet aroma and texture that cannot be replicated with desiccated coconut.
  2. Roast the coconut: Roasting the grated coconut lightly in a pan before adding it to the sugar syrup can help enhance its flavor and give the burfi a slightly nutty taste.
  3. Use the right ratio of sugar and milk: The amount of sugar and milk you add to the coconut can affect the texture and taste of the burfi. Use a 1:1 ratio of sugar to coconut and a 1/2 cup of milk for every cup of grated coconut.
  4. Cook on low heat: Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring continuously to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan and burning. It can take up to 30-40 minutes to cook the mixture and for it to thicken.
  5. Add cardamom powder: Add a pinch of cardamom powder to the burfi to enhance its flavor.
  6. Pour the mixture in a greased tray: Once the mixture thickens, pour it into a greased tray and smooth it out with a spatula. Allow it to cool and set for a few hours before cutting it into pieces.

Ingredients

  • Coconut finely grated – 250 gms.
  • Sugar – 250 gms.
  • Water – 150 ml.
  • Cardamom powder
  • Ghee for greasing plate

Instructions

How to Make Coconut Burfi:

  1. Prepare sugar syrup turning water to 2 1/2 thread consistency
  2. Fry the grated coconut with little ghee in a heavy saucepan, pour in the syrup.
  3. Cook the above mixture stirring continuously until smooth lump is formed.
  4. Spread the above smooth lump in a greased plate. Let it Cool.
  5. Sprinkle cardamom powder, for good flavor
  6. Cut into square shape
  7. Coconut Burfi is ready. Store in a dry place or in an airtight container.
