Pedhas sweet is made out of khoya and it tastes marvellous. They are made of milk and sugar. As its major ingredient is based on milk byproduct, it is good for health. Making this recipe is very simple but time taking process, perfectly made peda will gently melt in our mouth. In Sweet shops, many of them make using milk instead of making with khova or with milkmaid. They claim khova costs more than milk as some times they even mix milk powder or even maida to save money.

In order to enhance Pedhas sweet flavour, we can add artificial flavour like vanilla or natural like rose water or cardamom powder. One should focus on stirring constantly and making sure that the bottom of the vessel doesn’t get burnt.

Tips to help you make the perfect pedhas sweet:

  1. Use fresh and good quality khoya: Good quality khoya is important for making soft and creamy pedhas. Fresh khoya is usually available in Indian grocery stores, but you can also make it at home from scratch.
  2. Cook the khoya on low heat: Cook the khoya on low heat, stirring continuously to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan and burning. This will help make the khoya soft and creamy.
  3. Add sugar in small quantities: Add the sugar in small quantities, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Gradually increase the amount of sugar to get the desired sweetness.
  4. Add cardamom powder: Add a pinch of cardamom powder to the pedhas to enhance their flavor.
  5. Add a small amount of milk: Adding a small amount of milk while making the pedhas can help make them soft and creamy.
  6. Shape the pedhas when the mixture is still warm: The pedha mixture should be shaped into small balls or flattened discs when it is still warm and pliable. Once it cools down, it will become hard and difficult to shape.
  7. Decorate with nuts: You can decorate the pedhas with chopped nuts like almonds, pistachios, or cashews to make them more attractive.

Ingredients

  • Khoya – 500 gms.
  • Pistas finely sliced – 10
  • Sugar – 300 gms.
  • Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp.
  • Colour as required 3 drops
  • cookie mold

Instructions

How to Make Peda Sweet:

  1. Grate khoya into fine pieces.
  2. Powder the sugar and mix with together in a thick bottom vessel.
  3. Fry the above mixture on low flame stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.

Tip: Remove from the heat when you observe very soft lump.

  1. Let it cool and add 3 drops of color and cardamom powder. Mix well.
  2. Make small balls and press them into a cookie mold.
  3. Press the sliced pista on the center.

Note: Khoya is available in almost all sweet stores. You can even make it at your home.

    Method to prepare Khoya:

    1. Boil the milk on high flame in a thick bottom vessel until the water evaporates
    2. Leaving behind a soft lump

    Note: Stir continuously while boiling milk

    1. You can even substitute condensed milk and cup milk in place of just milk (it will reduce time)
    2. Pedhas sweet is ready.
