Ingredients

  • Sorakaya/ Anapakaya/ Bottle Gourd – 1 large bowl
  • Oil – 3 tbsp.
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tbsp.
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tbsp.
  • Chana dal – ½ tbsp.
  • Onions – 1 cup
  • Green chillies – 4 No.
  • Salt – 1 ¼ tbsp.
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp.
  • Curry leaves – 2 tbsp.
  • Tomatoes – 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tbsp.
  • Red chilli powder- 1 tbsp.
  • Water – 1 bowl
  • Sesame powder – 2 tbsp.
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp.
  • Garam Masala powder – ¼ tbsp.

Instructions

  1. Heat 3 tbsp. oil in a pan and put mustard seeds, chana dal, cumin seeds, green chillies, onions and salt.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste once onions turn soft. Saute for a while and add tomatoes and curry leaves.
  3. Mix and close the lid, cook for a while till tomatoes turn soft.
  4. Put sorakaya pieces, salt and turmeric powder. Cook for a while on low flame.
  5. Once they turn soft, add little water and red chilli powder.
  6. When the gravy is about to thicken, sprinkle sesame powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder.
  7. Mix all ingredients and serve Sorakaya Curry Recipe with hot rice.

How to make Sorakaya Curry Recipe:

1.  Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and chana dal.

Add oil, mustard, cumin and chana dal.

2.  Add onions, green chillies, a pinch of salt so that onions turn soft. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a while.

3.  Put curry leaves and tomatoes. Mix and cook for a minute with the lid covered.

4.  Add sliced bottle gourd, sprinkle turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.

5.  Close the lid and cook for 10 minutes on low flame. As bottle gourd has more water in it, we need not add extra water. Water gets released and cooks by itself.

Cook Sorakaya Curry for 10 minutes.

6.  Open the lid and sprinkle red chilli powder and 1 bowl of water. Mix and cook further for a minute or two.
